Harmony between the natural and the manufactured
Comme Si Creative Director Jenni Lee envisions a place for ritual, gathering, and meditation to imagine the USM system for new uses. The collaboration features eight unique furniture pieces along with limited edition Comme Si silhouettes inspired by USM Haller colors.
She intentionally selected an earthy palette of USM Haller colors that are reminiscent of wood and stone, pairing them with custom Comme Si textiles for upholstery and plants that invite you to embrace nature while indoors.
Comme Si x USM includes both hard and soft goods. The hard collection features furniture pieces like the color block Sock Dresser, serene Reading Wall, Vanity, integrated Platform for Relaxation, Chaise Lounge, Folding Screen, glowing Table Lantern and Wardrobe.
The soft collection features limited-edition pairings of beloved Comme Si silhouettes inspired by USM Haller colors rendered in crisp Italian Cotton Poplin and soft Italian Linen. Special-edition pieces released as the exhibit travels to different cities.
The exhibit showcases a one-of-a-kind application that blends USM’s iconic materials with Comme Si's signature textiles. “I’ve created a semi-sheer panel by fusing Comme Si Italian Linen with glass, in a way that appears light and ethereal from afar, but strong and sturdy up close. When lit up it mimics the warmth of a glowing paper lantern,” says Jenni Lee. The custom textured glass in combination with USM Haller E lighting mimics framed hanji doors found in Korean hanok.
The origin of USM
USM takes its initials from its founder, Ulrich Schärer, and Münsingen, the Swiss village just outside of Bern where he was born. Since its creation in 1885 and without interruption, the company USM has stayed rooted in Münsingen, Switzerland.
USM has been providing timeless modular furniture designs suitable for both home and office environments for more than 50 years. Created from a few basic elements, the company’s furniture offers tailor-made solutions that can be expanded or reconfigured as needed. Each furniture piece allows room for maximum versatility and creativity. To encourage long-term use, all of the USM product lines are made from high-quality materials for strength and durability to last for years.
